Caring for America

July Update

Extreme Makeover Fayetteville Edition
The exciting news is that Jubilee House has been chosen for the Extreme Makeover Fayetteville Edition.  The construction began July 14 and will be completed in a week.  Jubilee House will be able to help so many more women vets in need and we are so happy for them.  We can't wait to see the new Jubilee House!

Our first donation was such a success and so appreciated that we have decided to collect and donate household and personal care products to Jubilee House every month through the rest of the year.   So please remember to bring an item with you to each meeting.

Jubilee House is in need of volunteers to serve as mentors.  When a resident joins the program at Jubilee House she sets goals regarding employment, housing etc. and mentors are needed to aid in achieving these goals.  If anyone is interested please email Linda Townsend at twnsnd_lnd@yahoo.com for more information.

MAY UPDATE-NEW PLANTING DATE!
Our date in April for the Caring for America arm of the FRWC to go to Jubilee house and help build an elevated garden and plant vegetables had to be postponed due to an death in the family of the House Director.
**The date has tentatively been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 11th.  Time to be announced by Caring for America Chairman, Linda Townsend. Questions?--email linda at twnsnd_lnd@yahoo.com

JUBILEE HOUSE--2011 FRWC Caring for America Project

Jubilee House is a place for women veterans in Cumberland County to stay while they make the transition to civilian life.  They receive mentoring, training, civilian job and life skills training.  These women have served us, and now we want to help serve them.  The house is located at 120 Langdon Street (off Ramsey St.)

The garden planting scheduled for Sat. March 26th was cancelled due to the death of the Director's (Mrs. Barbara Summey Marshall) husband.  Our sincerest condolences to her.  We will reschedule this for a later date, and Linda Townsend (Caring for America Chair) will be in touch with the membership.

THE APRIL FRWC ACTIVITY WILL STILL GO ON...

The April activity for Jubilee House will be a "paper drive".  The House is always in need of paper products (paper towels, toilet tissue, kleenex,)--and we can help out there very easily.  At our April 10th meeting--if you are able, please bring what you would like to donate of these items and we will deliver them to the Jubilee House.  This is a pretty painless way to help for us--and a much appreciated donation for them!  Again-any questions--contact Linda Townsend at twnsnd_lnd@yahoo.com.

This Caring for America project should be near and dear to all our hearts--these are Cumberland Co. residents, they are women and they are Veterans!  Join us in the worthy endeavor.
